
Tommaso Turchetta Appointed General Music Director of Landestheater Coburg
By Francisco SalazarTommaso Turchetta has been appointed General Music Director of the Landestheater Coburg.
Turchetta will take on the position at the start of the 2026-27 season. The Naples-born conductor will succeed Daniel Carter, who is leaving the theatre at the end of the 2025-26 season.
In a statement Turchetta said, “I am very much looking forward to my time in Coburg, to an adventure full of music, inspiring encounters, and cultural diversity!”
Mayor Dominik Sauerteig added, “Tommaso Turchetta was the orchestra’s express first choice. Therefore, I am particularly pleased that we were able to secure him for the Coburg State Theatre. With him, we gain a conductor who has already demonstrated his musical quality and versatility at renowned opera houses. Together with the entire team, he will further develop the musical profile of our theatre and give the 2026-27 anniversary season a fresh impetus.”
Turchetta was most recently First Kapellmeister at the Aalto Theatre in Essen. Previously, he worked at the Tiroler Landestheater Innsbruck, where he conducted numerous opera productions. He gained international experience in Italy, France, and Switzerland, among other places.
