The Weinviertler Festspiele has announced that it will stage the first open-air production of Wagner’s iconic “Der Ring des Nibelungen” in the history of the festival for its 2021 edition.

The performances are set to take place at the Limberg-Maissau rock arena, which is located in the oldest part of the largest open-cast mining area in Central Europe. The special shape of the rock walls, allows performances in the open air without sound reinforcements. The orchestra will be placed in a pit under the stage, and thus protected from rain.

So far famed bass-baritone Tomasz Konieczny has confirmed his participation at the festival. The participation of other artists will be announced at a later date.

Matthias Fletzberger will conduct the production by Manfred Schweigkofler.

Two full ring cycles will be performed, from July 8 – July 11 2021, and from July 15 – July 18 2021.
