Toledo Opera to Present ‘Ragtime’

By Francisco Salazar

The Toledo Opera is set to stage Broadway’s “Ragtime.”

The production will be showcased on April 19, and April 21 at the Valentine Theatre.

The work by Stephen Flaherty, Lynn Ahrens, and Terence McNally will be presented for the first time by the opera company with Derrick Davis. He will be joined by Raquel Suarez Groen and Joshua Jeremiah. They will be joined Imara Miles, Nicholas Kottman, Brendan Boyle, Elizabeth Mitchell, Sara Mortensen, Evan Fleming, and Bernard Dotson.  Elias Fox, Sophia Bernard, Jon Suek, Kris Krotzer, Christopher Stack, Darla Arnett, and David P. Engel.

“Ragtime” will be conducted by J. Ernest Green, directed by James M. Norman, and choreographed by Domonique Glover.

Regarding the production,” Toledo Opera’s Executive Director Suzanne Rorick said, “Ragtime is a crossover musical theater piece similar to ‘Candide’ or ‘Sweeney Todd’ – both of which Toledo Opera has performed in the recent past. You can expect exciting vocal performances and storytelling that will relate to some part of your personal history as it is the story of immigration and ultimately the acceptance of differences. We are all a part of this melting pot and this historical piece helps to examine and explain that humanity.”
