Toledo Opera to Host ‘Blue: Stories from Toledo’
By Francisco SalazarToledo Opera will host its first screening of the documentary film “Blue: Stories from Toledo” on Feb. 23, 2022.
The documentary will contextualize the story of Blue within the lived experiences of Toledoans. Toledo Opera and Madhouse Creative collaborated on the 30-minute documentary film featuring interviews with Toledoans and opera experts.
Following the screening, The University of Toledo Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and the City of Toledo Human Relations Commission will host a panel discussion with Toledo Opera Community Engagement Advisory Committee members Crystal Glambin and Sierra Webb acting as co-moderators. Advocate, lawyer, and educator RaShya Ghee (an alum of Toledo Opera’s Community Engagement Advisory Committee); photographer James Dickerson (who is featured as a storyteller in the film); and tenor Camron Gray (who performed in the original cast of “Blue”) will serve as panelists.
RaShya Ghee noted, “The arts play an essential role in how a society understands itself and I don’t think that’s ever been more important in my lifetime than it is right now. As someone who’s been involved with this project from the beginning, I am elated to be back in Toledo to explore this important work and the topics it touches on.”
The program will be available for viewing online at facebook.com/ToledoHRC.
