Toledo Opera Teams Up With Toledo Museum of Art for ‘Carmen’ Preview Experience
By David SalazarToledo Opera is teaming up with the Toledo Museum of Art (TMA) to present two free LocalEyes tours on Saturday, Oct. 4, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. and 2:45 p.m. at the museum.
The program coincides with Toledo Opera’s upcoming production of Bizet’s “Carmen.” Each LocalEyes tour pairs a TMA docent with a guest curator—an artist, professor, musician, or community member—who guides visitors through works in the museum’s collection that hold personal resonance.
This edition of LocalEyes will feature Dr. Eftychia Papanikolaou, Associate Professor of Musicology at Bowling Green State University and lecturer for Toledo Opera. Dr. Papanikolaou will guide audiences through the galleries, connecting selected artworks with themes central to “Carmen”—including love, fate, independence, and conflict.
“Building on the passion and drama of Toledo Opera’s Carmen, the LocalEyes tour invites our community to share the artwork that has deeply inspired them,” said Toledo Opera General Director James M. Norman. “This unique collaboration between TMA and Toledo Opera offers an intimate glimpse into the emotional power and history behind the pieces. It’s an opportunity for Toledoans to connect with art in a new way—through the voices and experiences of their neighbors.”
