Toledo Opera has announced two major events to get audiences excited for its forthcoming production of Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love.”

First up is “Get Into the Spirit of Opera” alongside Toledo Spirits on Jan. 29, 2026 starting at 5:30 p.m. local time.

The event serves as a preview for the Donizetti classic and includes signature cocktails created by Toledo Spirits, available in both alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, as well as a live performance by members of The Elixir of Love cast. Attendees will also be entered into a drawing for two tickets to opening night of “The Elixir of Love” on Feb. 13, 2026, along with a $75 gift certificate for Toledo Spirits/Bellwether.

Then comes “Top Shelf: A Cocktail Competition of Operatic Proportions” on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at 7 p.m. at the Registry Bistro Ballroom in Toledo, Ohio.

Organized by Toledo Opera’s Audience Development Committee, the showcase is inspired by the company’s upcoming production of Donizetti’s “The Elixir of Love” and combines mixology, live music, and audience participation. Audiences will get a chance to interact with local community figures serving as guest mixologists, each competing to create an original cocktail.

Participating celebrity mixologists include WTOL anchor Dan Cummins; Toledo Deputy Mayor Abby Arnold; Handmade Toledo founder Jessica Crossfield; TolHouse founder Angela Lucas; Tony Krncevic; and Merchant Marine Captain Dan Kleiboemer. Also competing are The Elixir of Love conductor J. Ernest Green and tenor David Walton, who will sing the role of Nemorino in the production.

Attendees will sample four original cocktails, enjoy food offerings from Registry Bistro, and have access to mocktails. The program also includes a musical preview performed by a cast member from “The Elixir of Love.” Guests will then vote for their favorite cocktail through tips, with the highest-earning entry receiving the Top Shelf Trophy.

“The Elixir of Love” will open on Feb. 13, 2026 with an additional performance set for Feb. 15.
