The Boston University College of Fine Arts School of Music: Opera Institute and School of Theatre have unveiled their 2019 spring opera season.

The institutions will kick things off with the New England Premiere of Tobias Picker and J. D. McClatchy’s “Dolores Claiborne” starting on Feb. 21, 2019. BU Opera Institute has had a lengthy relationship with Picker, producing such works as “Thérèse Raquin” and “Emmeline.” This chamber version of the opera is being presented as part of a co-production with the New York City Opera.

The production will be directed by Jim Petosa and conducted by William Lumpkin.

“For our first operatic experience in the new Booth Theatre, we found a perfect companion in Tobias Picker’s operatic setting of Stephen King’s ‘Dolores Claiborne’…a psychological thriller and human drama,” said Petosa and Lumpkin in an official press release.

Performance Dates: Feb. 21-24, 2019

Later in the spring, the university will showcase a new production of “The Cunning Little Vixen” in a co-production with the Glimmerglass Festival. The production will be directed by BU CFA graduate E. Loren Meeker.

Performance Dates: April 29-May 2, 2019
