Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck Names New Chief Conductor
By David SalazarThe Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck has named Ainārs Rubiķis to the position of Chief Conductor, starting during the 2025-26 season.
Rubiķis has been a guest conductor with the orchestra on several occasions and recently led a program of works by Debussy, Strauss, and Tchaikovsky in February 2024.
“It has been a pleasure for me to work with this great orchestra over the past few years,” Rubiķis, also a pianist and violinist, said per a report by The Violin Channel. “The dedication and skill of the musicians impresses me greatly and it is an honor for me to continue working with such talented people and in such a beautiful city.”
Throughout his career as a conductor, Rubiķis has performed with such ensembles as the Stuttgart State Orchestra, the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra, the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the Moscow State Symphony, the BBC Scottish Symphony, the Toronto Symphony, and the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, among others.
He was also the General Music Director of the Komische Oper Berlin.
