Tineke Van Ingelgem, Leonardo Capalbo & Rafael Fingerlos Lead Opera Vlaanderen’s 2022-23 Season

Belgium’s Opera Vlaanderen has announced its 2022-23 season. Here is a look at the opera productions and recitals the season will offer.

Opera 

Kurt Weill’s “Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny” will be conducted by Alejo Pérez and Ivo Van Hove. Leonardo Capalbo, Tineke Van Ingelgem, Katharina Persicke, Maria Riccarda Wesseling, Bongani Justice Kubheka, James Kryshak, Thomas Oliemans, Frederick Ballentine, and Marcel Brunner star.

Performance Dates: Sept. 9 — Nov. 18, 2022

Mozart / Concert Arias will feature choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker with conductor Francesco Corti. It will star Emma Posman, Annelies Van Gramberen, and Raphaële Green.

Performance Dates: Oct. 9-Dec. 3, 2022

György Kurtág’d “Fin de Partie” will be conducted by Johannes Kalitzke and will star Frode Olsen, Morgan Moody, and Leonardo Cortellazzi.

Performance Dates: Nov. 19 & 20, 2022

Schumann’s “Faust” will feature Rafael Fingerlos, Eleanor Lyons, Ilker Arcayürek, Lore Binon, and Sam Carl. Philippe Herreweghe conducts the production by Julian Rosefeldt.

Performance Dates: Oct. 28, 2022-May 14, 2023

Vincenzo Costanzo, Irakli Kakhidze, Ernesto Petti, Marta Torbidoni, Ania Jeruc, and Elisa Soster star in Verdi’s “Ernani” with Julia Jones and Alessandro Palumbo conducting a production by Barbora Horáková Joly.

Performance Dates: Dec. 16, 2022-Jan. 22, 2023

Jonathan Stockhammer conducts Philip Glass’ “Satyagraha” with Stefan Cifolelli, Cathrin Lange, Maren Favela, Jorge Eleazar Álvarez, and Justin Hopkins starring.

Performance Dates: Feb. 15-March 7, 2023

Purcell’s “The Indian Queen” will be conducted by Emmanuelle Haïm and directed by Guy Cassiers.

Performance Dates: March 18-25, 2023

Roy Cornelius Smith, Carla Filipcic Holm, Albert Dohmen, Mark Gough, Stephan Adriaens, Dshamilja Kaiser, and Vincenzo Neri star n Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde.” Alejo Pérez conducts Philippe Grandrieux’s production.

Performance Dates: March 22-April 23, 2023

Filip Rathé conducts Britten’s “The Rape of Lucretia” with Carlos Wagner directing.

Performance Dates: May 5-June 8, 2023

Kartal Karagedik, Eleanor Lyons, Maeve Höglund, Božidar Smiljanić, and Anna Pennisi lead Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro.” Marie Jacquot conducts the production by Tom Goossens.

Performance Dates: May 30-July 6, 2023

Recitals 

Soprano Tineke Van Ingelgem performs a recital of music by Kurt Weill and cabaret music.

Werner Van Mechelen and Jozef De Beenhouwer perform German Lieder and French mélodies by Schubert, Schumann, Pfitzner, Fauré, Debussy and Hahn.

Mezzo-soprano Christianne Stotijn perform Schubert’s “Winterreise.”

Concerts 

Alejo Pérez, Tineke Van Ingelgem, Jan Schweiger, Ekaterina Romanova, and Kris Belligh present an outdoor concert.

Performance Date: Sept. 4, 2022

Alejo Pérez, Eleanor Lyons, Jan Schweiger, and Wolfgang Stefan Schwaiger lead the Brahms German Requiem.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25 & 27, 2022

Alejo Pérez, Arie Van Der Beek, and Ekaterina Romanova team up for a program of music by  Strauss, Mozart and Elgar.

Performance Date: Dec. 11 & 15, 2022

The Queen Elisabeth Competition will be presented with the Symphony Orchestra of Opera Ballet Vlaanderen.
