Thomas Hampson Leads Teatro Real’s ‘Hadrian’ Cast

The Teatro Real has announced the cast for Rufus Wainwright’s “Hadrian.”

The work, which will be presented on July 27, will be conducted by Scott Dunn and showcase visuals by Robert Mapplethorpe.

The cast will be led by Thomas Hampson, who sang the world premiere of the opera at the Canadian Opera Company in the title role, Ainhoa Arteta as Plotina, Xabier Anduaga as Antinous, Rubén Amoretti as Turbo, Vanessa Goikoetxea as Sabina, and Alejandro del Cerro as Trajan.

The cast will be rounded out by Vicenç Esteve, Gregory Dahl, Pablo García-López, Josep-Ramón Olivé, David Lagares, Berna Perles, and Albert Casals.

“Hadrian” made its world premiere at the Candian Opera Company in 2018 in production and excerpts were also performed at the Cincinnati Opera.
