Theatro Municipal São Paulo Unveils 2023 Season

The Theatro Municipal in São Paulo, Brazil has unveiled its 2023 season.

First up will be a production of “Il Guarany” this May The opera will be conducted by Roberto Minczuk and directed by Ailton Krenak and stars Atalla Ayan, Nadine Koutcher, Rodrigo Esteves in the first cast, with Enrique Bravo, Débora Faustino, and David Marcondes appearing on alternate days as part of the second cast. The opera will also feature the participation of David Vera Popygua and Zahy Tentehar Guajajara as actors in the production.

Performance Dates: May 12 – 20, 2023

The company will also feature “La Fanciulla del West” under the musical direction of Roberto Minczuk and stage direction of Carla Camurati. The opera stars Marsha Thompson, Licio Bruno, and Gustavo Lopez in the first cast, with the second group of soloists including Daniela Tabernig, Homero Velho, and Enrique Bravo.

Performance Dates: July 14 – 22, 2023

Next up is a double bill featuring “Ainadamar” by Golijov and “Isolda.Tristão” by Clarice Assad. The operas will be conducted by Roberto Minczuk with “Ainadamar” directed by Guilherme Leme Garcia and “Isolda.Tristão” under the direction of Ronaldo Zero. The casts include Denise De Freitas, Alefredo Tejada, Lina Mendes, and Raquel Paulin.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15-23, 2023

The final opera of the year will be “Der Fliegende Holländer” with Roderigo Esteves and Hernán Iturralde sharing the title role. They are joined by Elko Senda and Carla Filipcic as Senta.Roberto Minczuk directs with Caetano Vilela directing.

Performance Dates: Nov. 17 – 25, 2023
