Théâtre des Champs-Elysées Announces Cast Change for ‘Der Rosenkavalier’
By Francisco SalazarThe Théâtre des Champs-Elysées has announced a cast change for its production of “Der Rosenkavalier.”
The company said, “Due to personal reasons, Marina Viotti has canceled the role of Octavian in Richard Strauss’s new production of ‘Der Rosenkavalier,’ from May 21st to June 5th.”
As a result, “she will be replaced by Niamh O’Sullivan, who triumphed in February as Ino alongside Pretty Yende in ‘Semele.’ Niamh is one of those new talents that the lyric world is starting to snap out, and true to our policy of highlighting young talent, we are proud to contribute to the booming of her career.”
O’Sullivan took to social media and said, “I am SO beyond excited to be here in Paris for the next 2 months debuting the role of OCTAVIAN in Theatre des Champs Elysées new production of Der Rosenkavalier! This will be directed by Krzysztof Warlikowski and conducted by Henrik Nánási. ‘Der Rosenkavalier’ is my all time favourite opera and I feel such a strong connection with this role. This opera moves me beyond words. I can’t even really explain how I’m feeling right now but I am so looking forward to this journey and challenge. I’ll be joining Veronique Gens as The Marshallin, Regina Mühlemann as Sophie, Peter Rose as Baron Ochs and an amazing supporting cast!”
