The Théâtre Capitole de Toulouse has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Ponchielli’s “La Gioconda.”

The French company announced that Varduhi Abrahayman will no longer perform the role of Laura. As a result, Judit Kutasi will take over.

Kutasi has performed “La Gioconda” at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in the role of La Cieca and Laura. She is set to perform the opera at the Teatro alla Scala this season. The 2021-22 season will also see her return to the Deutsche Oper Berlin and the Bayerische Staatsoper.

The mezzo-soprano is set to join a cast that includes Béatrice Uria-Monzon, Renée Morloc, Ramón Vargas, Marco Spotti, and Pierre-Yves Pruvot. Roberto Rizzi-Brignoli conducts the production by Olivier Py.

“La Gioconda” opens on Sept. 24 and runs through Oct. 3, 2021.
