Theater Ulm Names New Music Director

The Theater Ulm has named a new General Music Director.

The German theater announced that Felix Bender would take over the post for five years starting during the 2021-22 season. 

In a statement, Mayor Iris Mann said, “In difficult times, an important course has been set for the city and theater, which gives hope and, in the good of Ulm tradition, offers a young artist an excellent stage.”

Bender noted, “It is a wonderful task with great responsibility that I am looking forward to with all my heart.”

Bender is the permanent guest conductor of the Leipzig Opera and has conducted such works as “Der Freischütz,” “Tannhäuser,” “Turandot,” “Don Carlos,” “Magnificat,” “Der Rosenkavalier,” “Werther,” “Lucia di Lammermoor,” and “Le nozze di Figaro.” He has also worked at such theaters as Theater Chemnitz, Aalto-Musiktheater Essen, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theater Lübeck, Theater Erfurt, Theater Regensburg and Lautten Compagney.
