Theater St. Gallen Announces 2021-22 Season

The Theater St. Gallen in Switzerland has announced its 2021-22 season which includes a number of unique opera experiences.

Opera

“Breaking the Waves” will star Vuvu Mpofu, Robin Adams, Jennifer Panara, Justin Hopkins, Christopher Sokolowski, and Claude Eichenberger, among others. Modestas Pitrenas conducts a production by Melly Still.

Performance Date: Sept. 18 – Nov. 5, 2021

“Die Zauberflöte” will star Antonin Vessenina, Karen Vermeiren, Vuvu Mpofu, Libby Sokolowski, Yorck Felix Speer, Justin Hopkins, Pavel Kolgatin, Christopher Sokolowski, Ändas Humm, and leon Kosavic, among others. Katharina Müllner conducts by Guta Rau directs.

Performance Date: Oct. 23, 2021 – Feb. 12, 2022

Vuvu Mpofu and Tatjana Schneider take on the role of Violetta in “La Traviata.” Francesco Castoro and Pablo Bemsch share the role of Alfredo while Kartal Karagedik and Leon Kosavic are Giorgio Germont. Modesta Pitrenas conducts while Nina Russi directs.

Performance Date: March 19 – June 9, 2022

Conductor Natalia Salinas leads “Maria de Buenos Aires” in a production by Marcos Darbyshire. The opera stars Ieva Prudnikovaite, David Luque, Mariano Gladic, and Isaac Espinoza.

Performance Date: May 7 – June 12, 2022

Tchaikovsky’s “The Maid of Orleans” will star Raehann Bryce-Davis, Zlata Khershberg, Alexey Tikohomirov, and Jerzy Butryn, among others. Dmitri Jurowski conducts while Barbora Horáková directs.

Performance Date: June 24 – July 8, 2022

Concerts

Jessica Rose Cambio and Michael Spadaccini lead a concert featuring music by Wagner, Massenet, Verdi, Puccini, and Mascagni.

Performance Date: June 30, 2022

La Venexiana performs music by Monteverdi.

Performance Date: July 1, 2022

Orchestra Concerts

Mezzo-soprano Alix Le Saux appears in a concert performing music by Canteloube. The program also includes music by Honegger and Beethoven. Modestas Pitrenas conducts.

Performance Date: Nov. 11 & 12, 2021

Wayne Marshal leads a performance of “Porgy and Bess” starring Indira Mahajan, Alison Buchanan, Ronald Samm, and Kevin Short.

Performance Date: May 18, 20 & 22, 2022
