Theater Magdeburg has extended General Artistic Director Julien Chavaz’s contract.
Chavaz will now remain with the company for another five years until 2031-32. The decision was made by the Magdeburg City Council in February and approved by the Administrative Committee.
The Swiss national has led the four-part theater in the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt since the 2022-23 season and has helped shape the theater’s profile.
In a statement, Chavaz said, “I am delighted by the trust and the opportunity to continue developing Theater Magdeburg in the coming years together with my team. The period so far has been characterized by tremendous artistic successes and strong audience support.”
Magdeburg’s Mayor Simone Borris said, “Julien Chavaz has done outstanding work in recent years. I am convinced that the general director and the entire team of the Theater Magdeburg will continue to enrich the state capital culturally in the coming years.”
