Theater Dortmund Delays ‘The Merry Widow’ Opening

By Francisco Salazar

The Theater Dortmund has delayed the premiere of “The Merry Widow.”

The company, which was forced to postpone the production by a week, noted that the delay was due to high COVID rates. As a result, the new production will now open on Jan. 29 instead of its originally planned Jan. 22 date.

The new production is set to be directed by Thomas Enzinger and will star Rebecca Nelsen and Penny Sofroniadou as Hanna Glawari,  Matthias Störmer as Graf Danilo Danilowitsch, Sooyeon Lee as Valencienne, Sungho Kim as Camille de Rosillon, and Ks. Hannes Brock as Baron Mirko Zeta.

Philipp Armbruster and Christoph JK Müller will conduct the operetta.

“The Merry Widow” is set to run through Feb. 20 for a total of four performances.
