The Theater Altenburg Gera has announced that the Armenian conductor Ruben Gazarian has been appointed the new General Music Director.
Gazarian’s inaugural concert in the new position will take place on October 20, 2020. Gazarian will also conduct a performance of Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde,” which will premiere on November 27, 2020.
From 2002 to 2018 Gazarian has served as the Chief Conductor and the Artistic Director at the Württembergischen Kammerorchesters Heilbronn. Ruben Gazarian’s contract as the General Music Director of the Theater Altenburg Gera will last at least until the fall 2024.
“Despite the COVID-19 related restrictions, the one and a half year search for the successor to Laurent Wagner in the position of the General Music Director at the Altenburg Theater in Gera was successfully completed,” says the Theater Altenburg Gera on its official website.
