The Washington Chorus has unveiled its 2023 winter season.

If you’re a choral fan in the Washington D.C. metro area, here’s what the Chorus has in store for you.

The Chorus opens its winter season with “Universal Longings | Anhelos Universales,” featuring James Lee III’s four-part work, “Breaths of Universal Longings.” Written for chorus, youth chorus, and orchestra, the work explores themes of joy and belonging and includes paraphrased biblical text, Charles Bertram’s “Now and Then,” as well as lyrics written by members of the May Festival Youth Chorus who appeared at the 2022 premiere. TWC will host its East Coast debut.

TWC will also present Antonio Estévez’s “Cantata Criolla,” a story about Florentino, a Venezuelan cowboy, who fights El Diablo in a musical contest to protect his soul.

The concert is co-presented with National Philharmonic. TWC Artistic Director Eugene Rogers conducts.

Performance Date: Nov. 5, 2023, at The Music Center at Strathmore

In December, the Chorus will present “A Candlelight Christmas,” an annual celebration featuring brass, the full Chorus, and special guests performing the music of the season.

Performance Dates: Dec. 15, 2023, at Music Center Strathmore and Dec. 16, 20, 21, & 22, at Kennedy Center Concert Hall
