The Shed is set to present Verdi’s Requiem on Nov. 19-24, 2019.

The performance will feature musicAeterna and conductor Teodor Currentzis in the organization’s North American debut. The production of the work will feature a specially commissioned cinematic artwork by avant-garde filmmaker Jonas Mekas.

Mekas, who recently passed away at age 96, drew inspiration from text by Alessandra Manzoni, the famed author to whom Verdi dedicated his magnus opus.

The cinematic work by Mekas was co-commissioned by The Shed and the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

Per The Shed’s official website, there is no current listing of the cast for the production of the Messa da Requiem; it will be announced at a latter date.

Currentzis is the Artistic Director of the Perm State Opera and Ballet Theatre and also the founder and Music Director of MusicAeterna Ensemble and Choir.
