The Opera Next Door to Present ‘St. John’s Passion’

By David Salazar

The Opera Next Door is set to present Bach’s “St. John’s Passion” on April 9 and 15, 2022.

The showcase, which will take place at the Co-Cathedral of St. Joseph in Brooklyn, New York, will feature an outdoor performance on the 9th (weather permitting), followed by another indoors on the 15th.

The famed piece will be semi-staged by director A. Scott Parry; Alejandro Zuleta will conduct the performance.  Audiences will get a chance to see Co-Cathedral soloists perform alongside the Chorus and Orchestra of St. Joseph’s.

Performances are free to the public.

The Opera Next Door was founded by Colombian soprano Sasha Gutiérrez during the 2020 pandemic, presenting live concerts on stoops across Brooklyn.  The company recently presented a production of “Così fan tutte” in May 2021.
