The Music Academy of the West Announces 2024 Summer Festival

The Music Academy of the West has unveiled its 2024 Summer Festival, which runs from June 12 – August 13, 2024. Here is a rundown of the vocal performances on offer.

First up is the Marilyn Horne Song Competition Winners Recital featuring baritone Navasard Hakobyan and pianist Brian Cho. They will perform a world premiere by Joel Thompson, among other works.

Performance Date: June 13, 2024

The Lehrer Vocal Institute will present its “Opera Scenes” program.

Performance Date: June 21, 2024

The Academy Festival Orchestra, under Osmo Vänskä, will perform Mahler’s “Songs of a Wayfarer” and the overture to “Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.” Also on the program is Sibelius’ second symphony.

Performance Date: June 22, 2024

The Lehrer Vocal Institute will present its Studio Artist Showcase.

Performance Date: July 10, 2024

There will be a performance of “Carmen” directed by Ken Cazan and conducted by Daniela Candillari. It also features choreography from flamenco star Manuel Gutierrez.

Performance Date: July 12 & 14, 2024

Lawrence Brownlee and pianist John Churchwell will perform in recitals. The program includes arias, Italian art songs, and spirituals.

Performance Date: July 23, 2024

Mary Birnbaum directs “L’Enfant et les Sortilèges.” William Long conducts.

Performance Date: July 25, 2024

Lawrence Brownlee teams up with the Lehrer Vocal Institute Fellows to present a program of songs inspired by Brownlee’s very own “Rising.”

Performance Date: July 27, 2024
