The Metropolitan Opera Announces the 2023 Summer HD Festival Schedule

The Metropolitan Opera has announced the schedule for its Summer HD Festival. Ten free opera screenings will be projected on the façade of the opera house in Lincoln Center Plaza on Aug. 26-Sept. 4.

First up is a special presentation of the film “Moonstruck,” (1987) starring Academy Award-winner Cher, with costars Nicolas Cage, Olympia Dukakis, Danny Aiello, Vincent Gardenia, and John Mahoney.

Performance Date: Aug. 25, 2023

Verdi’s “La Traviata” stars Nadine Sierra as Violetta, Stephen Costello as Alfredo, and Luca Salsi as Georgio Germont. Daniele Callegari conducts the Michael Mayer production, originally transmitted on Nov. 5, 2022.

Performance Date: Aug. 26, 2023

Cherubini’s “Medea” stars Sondra Radvanovsky in the title role and Matthew Polenzani as Giasone. Janai Brugger, Ekaterina Gubanova, and Michele Pertusi round out the cast. Carlo Rizzi conducts the production, originally transmitted on Oct. 22, 2022.

Performance Date: Aug. 27, 2023

Kevin Puts’ “The Hours” stars Renée Fleming, Kelli O’Hara, and Joyce DiDonato. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the show, originally transmitted on Dec. 10, 2022.

Verdi’s “Falstaff,” starring Michael Volle as Sir John Falstaff, Ailyn Perez as Alice Ford, Hera Hyesang Park as Nannetta, Jennifer Johnson Cano as Meg Page, Marie-Nicole Lemieux as Mistress Quickly, Bogdan Volkov as Fenton, and Christopher Maltman as Ford. Daniele Rustioni conducts the Robert Carsen production originally transmitted on April 1, 2023.

Performance Date: Aug. 29, 2023

“Hamlet” stars Allan Clayton in the title role, Brenda Rae as Ophelia, Sarah Connolly as Gertrude, Rod Gilfry as Claudius, and John Relyea as the ghost of Hamlet’s father. Nicholas Carter conducts the Brett Dean production originally transmitted on June 4, 2022.

Mozart’s “Così fan tutte,” starring Kelli O’Hara as Despina, Christopher Maltman as Don Alfonso, Amanda Majeski as Fiordiligi, Ben Bliss as Ferrando, Serena Malfi as Dorabella, and Adam Plachetka as Guglielmo. David Robertson conducts this Phelim McDermott production originally transmitted Mar. 31, 2018.

Giordano’s “Fedora” stars Sonya Yoncheva as Fedora and Piotr Beczała as Loris Ipanoff. Marco Armiliato conducts the David McVicar production originally transmitted on Jan. 14, 2023.

Terence Blanchard’s “Champion” stars Ryan Speedo Green as young Emile Griffith, Eric Owens as Emile Griffith, and Latonia Moore as Emelda Griffith. Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the James Robinson production originally transmitted on Apr. 29, 2023.
