The Metropolitan Opera Announces Live in HD Encores for Summer 2023

The Metropolitan Opera has announced its Summer Encores of past performances from its acclaimed Live in HD series of cinema presentations.

The screenings will take place in the United States and Canada. The United States tickets will be available on Fathom Events, and in Canada can be purchased through Cineplex.

Philip Glass’s “Akhnaten” (Wednesday, July 26) will broadcast in director Phelim McDermott’s performance. Philip Glass’s work stars Countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo and is conducted by Karen Kamensek.

Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” (Wednesday, August 2) will be broadcast in David McVicar’s production. The HD recording features soprano Sondra Radvanovsky as Leonora and tenor Marcelo Álvarez as the outlaw Manrico, with baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky as Count di Luna and mezzo-soprano Dolora Zajick as Azucena. Marco Armiliato conducts.

Rossini’s “Il Barbiere di Siviglia” (Wednesday, August 9) stars baritone Christopher Maltman, Isabel Leonard, and Lawrence Brownlee. The production also includes Maurizio Muraro and Paata Burchuladze conducted by Michele Mariotti.

Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” (Wednesday, August 16) includes Soprano Renée Fleming and Baritone Dmitri Hvorostovsky. Putin supporter Valery Gergiev conducts the famed staging by Robert Carsen.
