The Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company is joined by the Likht Ensemble to present “The Shoah Songbook Series Part Two: Kovno/Vilna” on Jan. 27, 2022, International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

The concert is curated and performed by soprano Jaclyn Grossman and pianist Nate Ben-Horin, as well as produced by the creative directors Ilan Waldman and Madison Matthews, and audio engineer Ryan Harper.

The program features songs from the Kovno/Vilna ghettos that have been unearthed and preserved with the help of the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. Edwin Geist’s “Three Lithuanian Songs” arranged by Percy Haid and Ben-Horin’s arrangements of songs and poetry by Mark Warshawsky, Edwin Geist, Shmerke Kaczerginski, Abraham Brundo, and unknown artists will be premiered.

In an official statement, Jaclyn Grossman said, “As Jewish musicians, we need to enrich the traditional classical canon with fresh context…Otherwise, we risk neglecting the generation of artists who whose legacies were destroyed during the Holocaust.”

The 20-minute online concert is available to watch on the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company’s website and is free for all audience members. Please be mindful that some content may be sensitive for some audiences.
