The Glasshouse has announced that GemArts will join its roster of Artistic Partners as the venue marks its 20th anniversary season.

The award-winning arts organization, a leader in South Asian and diversity programming, becomes the fifth partner alongside Corinne Bailey Rae, Maria Włoszczowska, The Unthanks, and John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London.

As part of the new partnership, GemArts will present six annual performances, including events during the Masala Festival.

The season begins on Sept. 27 with Orchestral Qawwali Project, a large-scale co-production featuring music by Rushil Ranjan and the acclaimed vocals of Abi Sampa, widely recognized as the UK’s first female Qawwal.

Riverside Ragas concerts will continue throughout the autumn, with Tar Rang – 100 Colours, 100 Strings (Sept. 19), Ghazal Lounge (Oct. 10), and Sanskrati Wahane and Gurdain Rayatt (Nov. 28).

Other Artistic Partners also feature prominently in the coming months. Bailey Rae will lead a music and dance residency at a Gateshead primary school, The Unthanks debut their quarterly Friday Night Club on Sept. 26, Włoszczowska joins Royal Northern Sinfonia for Strauss and Mahler on Sept. 27, and John Wilson’s Sinfonia of London returns for concerts on Oct. 17 and Dec. 18.

“Having five Artistic Partners at once is a huge step for us,” said Wendy Smith, Creative Director at The Glasshouse. “It’s a clear sign of the artist-led, creatively ambitious era we’re in.”
