The Edinburgh Festival 2018 To Present Five Operas Featuring Christine Goerke, Elizabeth DeShong & Michele Angelini
By Francisco SalazarThe Edinburgh Festival has announced its 2018 season with a number of opera productions scheduled to be performed. There are also a number of concerts, dance and theater performances, but for this announcement, we will focus on the operatic events.
Productions
The festival opens with a concert performance of Humperdinck’s “Hansel & Gretel” conducted by Sir Andrew Davis. The Royal Scottish National Orchestra accompanies a stunning international cast which includes Elizabeth DeShong as Hänsel, Laura Wilde as Gretel, Okka von der Damerau as the Mother, Tomasz Konieczny as the Father, and Thomas Blondelle as the Witch.

Simon O’Neill sings the title role in Wagner’s “Siegfried” alongside a star-studded cast that includes Christine Goerke, Gerhard Siegel, Iain Paterson, Samuel Youn, Clive Bayley, Anna Larsson, and Malin Christensson. The concert performance will be led by Sir. Mark Elder with the Halle.

Robert Carsen directs “The Beggar’s Opera” in a production from the Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord. William Christie conducts the work in a cast that includes Kate Batter, Olivia Brereton, Robert Burt, Emily Dunn, Wayne Fitzsimmons, Beverley Klein, Natasha Leaver, Emma Kate Nelson, Dominic Owen, Jocelyn Prah, Benjamin Purkiss, Kraig Thornber, and Gavin Wilkinson.
