The Dallas Opera has announced the four participants for its 2023-24 Hart Institute for Women Conductors.

The participants include Maria Benyumova (Germany), Micah Gleason (USA), Shira Samuels-Shragg (USA), and Jingqi Zhu (China).

“We are eager to welcome these promising conductors to this year’s Institute,” said Ian Derrer, the Dallas Opera’s Kern Wildenthal General Director and CEO, in an official press statement. “We are committed to providing unique and exceptional experiences for these talented conductors and hope our immersive program will help propel their artistry and their careers.”

The program kicks off on Nov. 13 with virtual sessions that will run through the 17th. Audiences will be able to livestream the events via the company’s office YouTube channel. There will then be a 10-day residency on Jan. 19-28 during which participants will work with faculty and mentors in one-on-one sessions.

It all culminates in the annual Showcase Concert on Jan. 28, 2024 at 7:30 p.m. Each participant will lead the Dallas Opera Orchestra and guest singers in opera excerpts.

There will also be a special panel discussion on Nov. 13, 2023 featuring Hart Institute Alumnae Tiffany Chang, Kǎrin Hendrickson, and Natalie Murray Beale, in addition to the 2023-24 participants.
