The Dallas Opera Announces Participants of 2022-23 Hart Institute for Women Conductors

The Dallas Opera has announced the participants of the 2022-23 Hart Institute for Women Conductors.

The conductors participating in the program this year include Celia Llácer Carbonell of Spain, Yuwon Kim of South Korea, Blair Salter of Canada, and Anna Sulkowska-Migon of Poland. Each will conduct The Dallas Opera Orchestra in excerpts at the final Showcase Concert scheduled for Jan. 28, 2023.

Meanwhile, the women chosen for this year’s administration track include Malikha Mayes, Mitra Sadeghpour, and Jaime Sharp. They will attend virtual and in-person sessions and work alongside their conductor colleagues.

The program will initiate with virtual sessions with two sessions open to the public via livestream. The first one, entitled “Women in Art and Leadership” will be streamed on Nov. 15, 2022. Quodesia D. Johnson will moderate a panel that includes Afton Battle of BMG Consulting and Fort Worth Opera, Teresa Coleman Wash of Bishops Arts Theatre Center, Production Designer Yuki Izumihara, Opera Director Ella Marchment, and Diane Hosey of Embrey Family Foundation.

The latter session, “Cultivating an Opera Community” will be livestreamed on Nov. 17, 2022. Johnson will moderate that panel, which will also feature Jennifer Bowman of Houston Grand Opera, Rebecca Kirk of Boston Lyric Opera, Kristian Roberts of The Dallas Opera, Elizabeth Askren of The Dallas Opera, and Cynthia López Pérez of Latina Women in Opera.

This year’s faculty includes Chelsea Dennis of Santa Fe Opera, Ian Derrer of The Dallas Opera, Cynthia Floyd of The Dallas Opera, Mariana Fonsec of Virgin Voyages, Shawna Lucey of Opera San José, Operations and Labor Consultant Nicholas Martin, Kim Noltemy of Dallas Symphony Orchestra, and Emmanuel Villaume of The Dallas Opera.
