The Dallas Opera Announces 2 Major Cast Changes for ‘Flight’

The Dallas Opera has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Flight.”

The company revealed that Abigail Rethwisch and Deanne Meek will join the cast as the Controller and Older Woman, respectively, taking over for Jessica Pratt and Karita Mattila, who were previously announced and have withdrawn for personal reasons.

Rethwisch debuted with The Dallas Opera during the 2019-20 season in a production of “The Magic Flute.” She also famously stepped into a performance of “Lucia di Lammermoor” two hours before the opening performance at Utah Opera and wound up completing the entire run. She has also appeared with such companies as Washington Concert Opera, Fort Worth Opera, Des Moines Metro Opera, The Santa Fe Opera, and Chautauqua Opera, among others. She is also set to debut at the Met Opera in “Akhnaten” this season.

Meanwhile Meek has performed with such companies as Opera Ireland, New York City Opera, Teatro Colon, La Monnaie, Teatro Real, Gran Teatre del Liceu, Le Chatelet, Opera National du Rhin, Opera de Lyon, Opera North and English National Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and the Metropolitan Opera where she appeared in “Idomeneo.” She has also

Rethwisch and Meek join a cast that includes John Holiday as the refugee, Elena Villalón as Tina, Andrew Stenson as Bill, Will Liverman as Steward, Kristen Choi as the Stewardess, Seth Carico as Minskman, Zachary James as the immigration officer, and Catherine Martin as the Minkswoman. The opera will be conducted by Emmanuel Villaume and directed by Kristine McIntyre.

 

The production is set to open on March 4, 2022.
