The Crossing to Premiere ‘In a House Besieged’

By Nicolas Quiroga

The Crossing is set to present “In a House Besieged,” under the direction of Donald Nally, starting on March 25, 2022 at the Cleveland Museum of Art, in Cleveland, OH.

The ensemble will then take the program to the Shadyside Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, PA and St. Mark’s Church in Philadelphia, PA, on March 26 and 27, respectively.

The concerts feature The Crossing and organist Scott Dettra, in the world premiere of “In a House Besieged” by composer Stacy Garrop. The work fuses the writings of American novelist and essayist Lydia Davis and reflects the fear and anxiety surrounding the aging process.

“The Cleveland debut of The Crossing will be especially significant, as Stacy Garrop’s piece is dedicated to the memory of our friend Robert G. Schneider and the work on this piece is written for his two great loves: the choir and the organ,” said Tom Welsh, Director of Performing Arts at the Cleveland Museum of Art, in an official press statement.

The Crossing is a professional chamber choir that has collaborated with some of the world’s leading ensembles and artists, including the New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Orchestra of American Composers, and the Network for New Music, among others. The ensemble has been nominated seven times for the Grammys and has come away with two awards.
