The Bolshoi Theatre Unveils 2019-20 Season

The Bolshoi Theatre has announced its 2019-20 season celebrating its 244th anniversary.

For this article, we will only concentrate on the opera being presented in new productions and in concert.

New Productions 

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “The Tale of Tsar Saltan” will be conducted by Tugan Sokhiev in a new production by Alexei Frandetti.

Premiere Date: Sept. 26, 2019

Vasily Pashkevich’s chamber opera “The Merchant’s Yard” will be presented in a new production by Gleb Cherepanov. Philipp Chizhevsky conducts.

Premiere Date: Nov. 29, 2019

Vincent Huguet’s 2018 production of Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas” arrives in Moscow with Christopher Moulds conducting.

Premiere Date: Dec. 5, 2019

Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Sadko” gets a new production by Dmitri Tchrniakov.

Premiere Date: Feb. 14, 2020

Britten’s“The Little Sweep” is set to be directed by Oleg Dolin with Airat Kashaev conducting.

Premiere Date: March 5, 2020

Semyon Spivak directs a new production of “Don Giovanni” with Tugan Sokhiev.

Premiere Date: June 17, 2020

Vladislav Nastavshev directs Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers” with Alexei Vereshagin conducting.

Premiere Date: July 2, 2020

Opera In Concert 

Prokofiev’s “Ivan the Terrible” will be showcased with Tugan Sokhiev conducting.

Performance Date: Nov. 23, 2019

With the participation of artists of La Scala Academy, Paris National Opera Academy, and Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, the Bolshoi Theatre will give a gala celebrating the 10th anniversary of young artists programs.

Performance Date: Dec. 8, 2019

Tchaikovsky’s “Mazeppa” gets a rare performance with Tugan Sokhiev conducting.

Performance Date: March 8, 2020

Tugan Sokhiev conducts Donizetti’s masterwork “Anna Bolena.”

Performance Date: May 24, 2020
