Director Jennifer Williams is set to lead a new production of Strauss’ “Four Last Songs” at The Alchemical on Jan. 15, 2020.

The production will feature soprano Cristina Bakhoum Sanchez with Sara Chiesa performing a piano arrangement of the work by Bakhoum Sanchez. The set will be designed by Jungah Han with Asa Benally designing the costumes. The work will feature video productions that have become a signature of Williams’ work.

This will be a unique opportunity to see Strauss’ renowned work in a different performance context. The “Four Last Songs” are often performed in concert setting, but, per a press release announcing this performance, never in a staged setting like other song cycles such as Schubert’s “Winterreise” or Bach’s “St. Matthew Passion.”

Williams has led productions with such companies as Beth Morrison Projects, Center for Contemporary Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, and the San Francisco Opera Center.
