Texas Opera Alliance Launches Teen Opera Club of Texas
By David SalazarThe Texas Opera Alliance has announced the launch of the Teen Opera Club of Texas.
The new club offers up free opportunities for teenagers between the ages of 13 and 19 to learn about and engage with the art form throughout the state of Texas. Those who participate will learn about all aspects of opera performance and even receive monthly invitations to virtual events and watch parties.
The club will have monthly meetings with the first one set for Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m. CDT. Participants will watch “Katie: Strongest of the Strong” and also get a chance to enjoy a Q & A with the cast, composer Faye Chiao, and soprano Chabrelle Williams.
On Nov. 19, Opera San Antonio General and Artistic Director E. Loren Meeker will spotlight “The Cunning Little Vixen,” focusing on the construction of scenic and costume designs.
“By igniting passion and enthusiasm for this powerful art form we will have a lasting impact on the next generation,” OSA Education Coordinator Madeline Elizondo stated in a press release. “Opportunities to connect and unify teens from across the globe are limitless thanks to this incredible new partnership. We look forward to empowering the youth of today with a love for opera through experiences that are relevant and engaging for young opera fans.”
The Texas Opera Alliance was created in early October by the Austin Opera, The Dallas Opera, Forth Worth Opera, Houston Grand Opera, and Opera San Antonio.
