Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival to Present an Opera About Melania Trump

By Francisco Salazar

First Lady Melania Trump is getting an opera this September as part of the Tête à Tête: The Opera Festival 2025

The work, which is titled “Melania: The Opera,” is set to world premiere on Sept. 25, 2025 at The Cockpit, and is written by Jeremy Limb & Melinda Hughes.

The farcical comic opera is set in 2027, and imagines a possible scenario in which Russian troops have already annexed Ukraine, Hungary, and Romania — and are continuing to move towards the West. “While Melania is delivering a speech at a school, it is announced that the troops will invade her native Slovenia, creating inner turmoil around her allegiances. Placed in an impossible situation, Melania must decide whether to remain loyal to her husband and to America, or to break her lifelong silence on the currents of power in which she is immersed.”

In a statement to the Violin Channel Hughes said, “Melania is elusive and hard to read. In some ways, she’s more interesting than Trump. Because she’s more enigmatic, it’s given us permission to run with our imagination. The focus is on Melania’s strained and stony character initially, and then her part becomes more lyrical. I’m a fairly good mimic but singing operatically and keeping her accent will be tricky.”
