Tenor Nathan Bryon was awarded the 2023 Dame Heather Begg Memorial Award.

The award comes with a $25,000 in funding to support the development of Bryon’s career.

The tenor has performed with such organizations as the Aspen Music Festival and is set to appear with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music in “Gianni Schicchi” and Livermore Opera in “The Magic Flute.” He is also a recipient of the 2023 Australian Music Foundation Yvonne Kenny Award and the San Francisco District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera’s Laffont Competition.

“This award is very significant as it will allow me to undertake necessary auditions and professional development,” Bryon said in an official press statement issued by the company. “It enables emerging singers to assess areas needing development or things
requiring preparation and have the financial means to undertake this work. The freedom to pursue developmental opportunities is crucial for an emerging singer, and so I am incredibly grateful to be a recipient of this award.”

This represents the 10th anniversary of the Dame Heather Begg  Memorial Award. Past recipients include Samuel Dundas, Janet Szepei Todd, Amina Edris, Jeremy Kleeman, Emily Edmonds, Lauren Fagan, Nicholas Jones, Fleuranne Brockway, and Filipe Manu.
