Tenor Albert Deprius Detained Following Abuse & Rape Charges

By Francisco Salazar

Catalan tenor Albert Deprius has been detained after being accused of abusing and raping various students at the Escuela Pía de Calella.

Deprius was a recognized vocal professor accused by a former student who was 14 years of age at the time the tenor abused her.

According to Platea Magazine, the abuse happened during his time as a teacher at the school. According to the Spanish media source, there was an accusation made back in 2016 when he got naked and accosted a worker from the school. That incident led to an out-of-court agreement and the criminal case was archived.

In November another victim came out and pressed charges. The victim was 14 at the time of the incident while he was 40. That was followed by another accusation in which the tenor allegedly abused the third victim while he drove her in his car.

Deprius is the Director of the Chorus and Orquesta Sinfónica Harmonia as well as the Artistic Director of the Temporada Lírica Ciutat de Calella and the Festival “Canta al mar.”
