Tempesta di Mare to Present ‘Women of Antiquity’
By David SalazarTempesta di Mare is set to present “Women of Antiquity” to kick off its 20th anniversary season.
The showcase, which will honor heroines and villainesses from history and legend, will present music by some of the great baroque composers.
Headlining the program will be mezzo-soprano Meg Bragle as she takes on two arias by Reutter including “Del pari infeconda” from “La Betulia liberata” and “Fra deserti e vaste arene” from “La Divina Provvidenza in Ismaele.” She will also interpret arias from Händel’s “Semele,” Purcell’s “Dido and Aeneas,” Porpora’s “Agrippina” and Desmarets’ “Circé.”
The concert will also feature music Telemann and Charpentier. Leading the performance will be co-directors Gwyn Roberts, Richard Stone, and concertmaster Emlyn Ngai.
Performances are set for Oct. 22 through Oct. 24 at several venues in the Philadelphia, PA area. The performance will also be made available virtually starting on Nov. 20, 2021. Audiences will be able to check out the showcase online until Dec. 19, 2021.
