Teatro Villamarta Postpones ‘La Casa de Bernarda Alba’

The Teatro Villamarta de Jerez has postponed “La casa de Bernarda Alba” by Miquel Ortega.

The Spanish theater announced that the production, which was set to open on Nov. 21 and star Ana Ibarra, Carmen Romeu, Luis Cansino, Marina Pardo, Marifé Nogales, Belén Elvira, Maribel Ortega, María Ogueta, and Helena Dueñas, will get a new date in the coming weeks.

The production will include the Orquesta de Cámara Lírica del Surw with Miquel Ortega conducting.

El Villamarta is the latest theater to postpone a production following a surge in COVID-19 cases in Spain. The Bilbao Opera announced it would postpone its production of “Alzira” while the Opera de Oviedo announced it was postponing the opening of “Madama Butterfly.” Meanwhile, the Aragon and Catalonia regions closed down their theaters.
