Teatro San Carlo Announces Cast Change for ‘La Traviata’

By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced a cast change for its performances of Verdi’s “La Traviata” on July 22 and 24.

The company noted that George Gagnidze will sing the role of Germont replacing Carlos Alvarez.

Gagnidze is coming off a run of Verdi’s “Nabucco” at the Teatro Real de Madrid. This month he is set to sing at the BBC Proms and is also set to open the Dallas Opera season with “Rigoletto.” He is also scheduled to return to the Metropolitan Opera for “Aida.”

Gagnidze joins a cast that includes Pretty Yende and Francesco Demuro. The second cast is led by Claudia Pavone, Francesco Castoro, and Ernesto Petti. Francesco Ivan Ciampa conducts.

Alvarez is still set to perform on July 27 & 29.
