Teatro San Carlo & Arena di Verona Pay Tribute to Murdered Horn Player Giovanbattista Cutolo

The Teatro San Carlo and the Arena di Verona paid tribute to 24-year-old horn player Giovanbattista Cutolo, who was shot and killed by a 16-year-old during a fight in Naples, Italy.

In a statement, the Teatro San Carlo said, “We are heartbroken. The whole Teatro San Carlo is close to the family of Giovanbattista Cutolo, a sensitive young and promising musician, in such a painful moment.”

Additionally, a video the Arena di Verona noted, “This evening, before ‘Tosca,’ the Arena di Verona Foundation, through the horns of its Orchestra, paid a musical tribute to Giovanbattista Cutolo, a 24-year-old musician killed in Naples. Fondazione Arena joins the family’s condolences and remembers a young hornist who dedicated his life to music and art, an example for many kids.’

Cutolo was killed on August 31, 2023 and is set to be buried on Sept. 6, 2023. According to reports, the murderer has confessed to his crime but noted that he was defending himself.

Cutolo was a horn player for the Nuova Orchestra Scarlatti-Young where he debuted in 2016.
