Teatro San Carlo Announces New Cast Change for ‘La Traviata’
By Francisco SalazarThe Teatro San Carlo has announced a new cast change for its production of “La Traviata.”
The company said that for the performances on July 17 and 20, Marina Rebeka will sing the title role taking over for an ill Lisette Oropesa.
Rebeka performed the first performance on July 14, also replacing Oropesa.
For her part, Oropesa took to social media and said, “Dear friends, As I recover day by day I’m feeling stronger. But it will take a few more days before I’m ready to sing Violetta again. I am following my doctor’s advice to step away from another week of performances, so this means I will sadly not be able to sing the July 17th and 20th performances of ‘La Traviata’ as scheduled at the Teatro San Carlo. Once again, I would like to thank my brilliant colleague and friend Marina Rebeka for stepping into these performances…it is a luxury for Napoli to have her in these performances. I’m so very sorry for this news but am very grateful to everyone who has sent me support and kind words. When I have my strength back, I will be so excited to return to the stage! Please be patient with me as I navigate this difficult time. It’s never pleasant to have to cancel performances and a chance to move the public, of course. But it is not wise to push through illness, especially in something as demanding as Verdi. All my love friends, I will keep you up to date as things progress”
Rebeka will join a cast that includes Kang Wang and Luca Salsi. Giacomo Sagripanti conducts the production by Lorenzo Amato.
Oropesa is set to return to the production on July 24.
