Teatro San Carlo Announces Cast Change for ‘Tosca’

The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of “Tosca.”

The company noted that Lucas Meachem will replace Ildar Abdrazakov in the role of Scarpia.

Meachem who took to social media noted that it will be his role debut and said, “It’s been a crazy few days … and I can finally share the news …. I’m stepping in to sing my first Scarpia (dream role is an understatement) for my house debut at Teatro San Carlo (another dream come true) with a dream cast none other than Jonas Kaufmann and Oksana Dyka… is this real life??!!!

In a press statement, Abdrazakov said, “I was very much looking forward to singing my first Scarpia in Napoli and am very sorry to have to withdraw. Unfortunately, my mother is unwell and I need to spend time with her and get her the care she needs. I am very much looking forward to coming back to Teatro San Carlo next season.”

“Tosca” opens on April 20 and will be performed through May 3, 2022.
