Teatro San Carlo Announces Cast Change for ‘Aida’

The Teatro San Carlo di Napoli has announced a cast change for its upcoming production of Verdi’s “Aida.”

The company noted that Anna Pirozzi will be replaced in the title role by Liudmyla Monastyrska on Feb. 17, 20, 23, and 26, 2022.

Monastyrska is a well-known interpreter of Aida who has sung the role at the Metropolitan Opera, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, and National Opera of Ukraine. The soprano has performed at many of the leading theaters in the world including the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Berlin State Opera, and Bayerische Staatsoper, among others.

The soprano will join a cast that includes Stefano La Colla, Agnieszka Rehlis, Franco Vassallo, and Nicolas Testé. Michelangelo Mazza conducts the production by Mauro Bolognini. “Aida” opens on Feb. 15 and also stars Anna Netrebko and Yusif Eyazov.
