By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro Regio di Torino’s former superintendent William Graziosi is under investigation.

According to a report in La Reppublica, Graziosi is being investigated by Italy’s Guardia di Finanza for corruption, abuse, and cronyism.

According to the investigation a number of irregularities have been found regarding Graziosi’s relationship with a Swiss-Italian artists agency and his proximity to the Five Star party which had the mayorship of Torino at the time.

Before Graziosi was appointed to the Teatro Regio di Torino, he led the Festival of Fondazione Pergolesi Spontini di Jesi and was the artistic director of the Astana Opera, two smaller and less recognized houses.

The investigation also found that Roberto Guenno, who was chorister and union member, saw his career grow to become a staff member of the Superintendent. According to the investigation Guenno favored the hiring of a Milanese company, which worked with market research and opinion surveys and allowed for the creation of stringent contracts.

According to the current superintendent Sebastian Schwarz, he was unaware of the corruption and the abuse that was going on.
