Teatro Real to Receive Gold Medal in Spain

The Academia de las Artes Escénicas in Spain has awarded the 2022 Medallas de Oro to the Teatro Real de Madrid.

The medal will be given to the theater for its “essential role in the dissemination and practice of the performing arts.” 

The Teatro Real is among the elected companies to receive this high honor alongside Festival Internacional de Teatro Clásico de Mérida, la Alianza de Teatros Latinos in New York, Mal Pelo, la Red Española de Teatros, Auditorios, Circuitos, and Festivales de Titularidad Pública y Xamfrà, Centro de Música y Escena del Raval in Barcelona.

The Academia also announced the distinction of the Académicos de Honor which will be presented to Tomás Marco, Aitana Sanchez-Gijón, Ramón Barea y Ricardo Darín, and Eva Yerbabuena.

These prizes will be awarded on Nov. 21 at the Hotel Wellington in Madrid. The awards have been given every year since 2014 to dignify the work developed in the performing arts.
