By Francisco Salazar

The Teatro Real is set to make its Carnegie Hall debut.

The company, which was awarded the Best Opera Company in 2021 by the International Opera Awards, will perform on the New York stage with international Spanish artists Javier Perianes, soprano Sabina Puértolas, and Juanjo Mena, who will lead the Orchestra of the Teatro Real.

The performance will celebrate the far-reaching influence of Spanish repertory as well as the 40th anniversary of the Sister City agreement between Madrid and New York. The concert highlights well-known works for piano, orchestra, and songs from zarzuela composed by Falla, Albéniz, and others.

The evening will also mark the New York debut of Puértolas, a renown Spanish soprano who has performed with the Teatro Real, Royal Opera House, Teatro alla Scala, and Gran Teatre del Liceu.

The concert is set to be performed on Sept. 15 at the Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage.
