Teatro Real de Madrid Renews General Director & Artistic Director Contracts

The board of the Teatro Real in Madrid has renewed General Director Ignacio García-Belenguer and Artistic Director Joan Matabosch’s contract until 2026.

Additionally, the board approved that Ivor Bolton would remain Music Director until July 2025.

During the meeting it was also approve that on March 3, there were be an hommage to the great composers Antón García Abril, Cristóbal Halffter, and Luis de Pablo. All three composers are important figures in Spanish music and have created works for the Teatro Real. “Si Divinas palabras” by de García Abril was the first world premiere at the newly renovated Teatro Real and “Don Quijote” by Halffter also premiered at the theater.

Meanwhile, “El abrecartas” by De Pablo will have its world premiere in February 2022 at the Teatro Real.
