The International Opera Awards have announced its 2021 winners with Teatro Real, Robert Carsen, Lise Davidsen and Javier Camarena taking top awards.

The Teatro Real took home the top award for Opera Company of the year. The company was one of the few companies in the world to continue performing throughout the pandemic and produced the historical production of “La Traviata.”

Davidsen won the Female Singer of the year while Camarena won Male Singer of the year.

Carsen took home the Director of the Year award while his production of “Oceane” took home the World Premiere opera of the year.

Jamie Barton was also among the biggest winners of the evening winning the Reader’s Choice Award.

Sir David Pountney won the Leadership in opera while Denyce Graves took home the Opera for Peace award.

The Bayerische Staatsoper won two awards including Conductor of the year for Kirill Petrenko and Orchestra of the Year award.

The Metropolitan Opera chorus won the Chorus award while the Philanthropy award went to the Martina Arroyo Foundation.

The Salzburg Festival won the Festival award of the year. In 2019 the festival performed productions of “Idomeneo,” “Medee,” “Alcina,” “Oedipe,” “Orpheus and the Underworld,” Simon Boccanegra” and “Salome,” and concert performances of such works as “Adriana Lecouvreur” and “Luisa Miller.”

The coveted Young Singer award featured a tie between tenor Xabier Anduaga and mezzo-soprano Vasilisa Berzhanskaya.
