Teatro Real de Madrid Announces Conductor Change for ‘Norma’

The Teatro Real de Madrid has announced a cast change for its upcoming “Norma” production.

The Spanish theater announced that Maurizio Benini has had to cancel his participation in the production due to personal reasons. As a result, Marco Armiliato will conduct the opera.

Armiliato is well known around the world and has conducted at the Metropolitan Opera, Arena di Verona, Royal Opera, Wiener Staatsoper, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Bayerische Staatsoper, and Opernhaus Zurich.

“Norma” is set star Yolanda Auyanet and Hibla Gerzmava in the title role; Michael Spyres and John Osborn as Pollione; and Roberto Tagliavini and Fernando Radó as Oroveso. Clémentine Margaine and Annalisa Stroppa round out the cast as Adalgisa.

The production opens on March 3 and runs through March 19, 2021.
